Next to research and education the IMS offers numerous opportunities to get in contact with research itself as well as work at an university.
Every two years the university-wide event "Die Nacht, die Wissen schaft" takes place. Within the frame of this event the IMS provides insight into current research activities.
School students can conduct smaller experiments as Forschergeister, build and program their own robot in the Mind-Storms-Roboter-Camp or complete an internship. Additionally participation in the Talente-Akademie is possible.
Only at few sites in Germany it is possible to complete a scientific year in the field of electrical engineering. The IMS has been offering positions to complete a voluntary scientific year for technichally interested high-school graduates since 2013.
Every year the IMS takes the scientific directorship of the "INVENT a CHIP" competition. INVENT a CHIP is the nationwide Initiative of VDE and FMER. In the year 2014 a total of 2500 students from all over Germany have participated in the 1st round of this competition.
