Moritz Benjamin Hafkemeyer, M. Sc., now a PhD candidate at the Institute of Microelectronic Systems (IMS) at Leibniz University Hannover, has been awarded the VDE Study Award by VDE Hannover for his outstanding master’s thesis in the field of electrical engineering. The award ceremony took place at the enercity headquarters at Glocksee in Hannover.
The VDE Study Award recognizes exceptional academic achievements by students of Leibniz University Hannover.
Moritz Hafkemeyer received the award for his master’s thesis titled “Design and Implementation of a 48V-1V Point-of-Load DCDC Converter for High-Performance Computing.” His work addresses one of the key challenges in modern high-performance computing systems: the efficient conversion of electrical energy for extremely high current loads.
Within the thesis, various capacitive and inductive power converter topologies as well as different interconnection and control approaches are researched. Based on these investigations, a hybrid 48V-to-1V converter topology for output currents exceeding 500 A is designed and optimized. The research is further validated through the implementation of a hardware prototype featuring an embedded copper power bar for high current power delivery.

During the award ceremony, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rüdiger Kutzner, chairman of VDE Hannover, and Dipl.-Ing. Axel Mohr, deputy chairman, congratulated the award recipients on their outstanding academic achievements.
