The "Forschergeist" (german: spirit of discovery) pupil project is a coooperation between the Institute of Microelectronic Systems and the ForscherGeist association. The main goal is to promote talented and highly interested pupils.
Seven pupils between seventh and ninth grade get the oportunity to get in contact to the interessting and diverse field of microelectronics at the Institute of Microelectronic Systems.
At first they get in touch with fundamental electronic circuits comprising resistors, light emitting diodes and transisors using experimental kits. Futhermerore they get teached in boolean logic by research engineers of the institute. To extend their knowlege the pupils perform small but complex do it yourself experiements with a logic board, e.g. picking a digital lock. Afterwards the pupils will design digital circuits from counters up to complex finite state machines with the help of a digital simulator tool.
Finally, the pupils design a complete microcontroller board aided by engineers of the institute in further course of the project. Afterwards the board will be assembled by the pupils themselve. Utilizing th board in future projects the pupils get and stay in contact with microcontroller programming by implementing the game classig "pong" making use of the on board microcontroller.
