A 2-8V Vin 670mA Scalable Multi-Ratio SC DCDC Converter for MCU Integration in 28nm CMOS Achieving 91% Peak Efficiency

Abstract

This multi-ratio switched-capacitor DCDC converter supports 2-8 ∼V input voltage using only 2.5 ∼V IO devices in 28nm CMOS. Its scalable architecture allows for configurations with 2 to 4 external 1 μ F capacitors enabling optimum power management for a broad range of low-end to high-end automotive microcontrollers with 0.9-1.1 ∼V core supply and up to 670 ∼mA load current. The peak efficiency is 91%. Switch conductance regulation ensures constant frequency operation, mandatory for automotive applications.
