- Abstract
A comprehensive overview of the existing multimedia technologies is given along with outlines of techniques which can be used to minimize power consumption in multimedia processors. Included are system level designs for implementation of high performance and low-power digital signal processing systems. The need for programmable multimedia signal processors and some of the software challenges involved in commercial multimedia processors is explained. Architectures for the implementation of present video compression schemes, dedicated function specific implementations, programmable video signal processors, and design examples of video processors are also briefly reviewed.
