Joseph Winkler wins 1st place at the Green ICT Award 2024

The Institute of Microelectronic Systems (IMS) congratulates its PhD candidate, Joseph Winkler, for winning first place at the 2024 Green ICT Award. The award ceremony took place on October 16, 2024, in Berlin during the Green ICT Connect conference under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Joseph Winkler was honored for his outstanding Master’s thesis on system and circuit concepts for high-density 48V DC-DC converters. These converters play a key role in the energy-efficient power supply of microchips in data centers and electric mobility.

The jury, chaired by Professor Amelie Hagelauer, head of the Fraunhofer EMFT, praised Winkler’s work as a prime example of how technological innovation can drive both efficiency and sustainability in information and communication technology.

The Green ICT Award, initiated by the Research Factory Microelectronics Germany (FMD) and awarded annually by the Green ICT Competence Center, recognizes exceptional student theses in the field of resource-efficient information and communication technologies, with a special emphasis on fostering young scientific talent.

Joseph Winkler is pursuing his PhD at IMS under the supervision of Professor Bernhard Wicht in the Mixed-Signal Circuits group (MX). The entire IMS team is proud of his remarkable achievement and looks forward to advancing research in this forward-looking field together.
