The goal of the NEEDS (Nanoelektronik-Entwurf für 3D-Systeme) project is to develop a new design methodology for three-dimensional circuits and to prove the results in the industrial environment. It should serve as groundwork for further research in this field.
The main focus of the IMS as a partner in the NEEDS project, is the analysis of three dimensional design methodologies and hierarchical optimization algorithms. Therefore, the basic mechanisms of hierarchical optimization systems are analyzed. Furthermore, data structures and algorithms for three-dimensional floorplanning are explored and evaluated.
