Microelectronics Project

In the Microelectronics Project, groups of up to four students can work on a joint project in microelectronics and microsystems technology. This course is aimed at electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science students in advanced bachelor or master studies and interested students of other technical subjects (e.g., mechatronics, mathematics).

The Microelectronics Project is offered once a year in the summer semester. The course is listed in the module catalogs of the Master's programs (Technical) Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Students of other disciplines may also participate by prior arrangement.

This course enables small interdisciplinary groups of up to four students to implement microelectronics and microsystems engineering projects. In coordination with the scientific staff of the IMS, the students are required to propose the topics initially.

During the project work, the groups are supervised and supported by the scientific staff. Regular group meetings and specific seminars on relevant project topics are held. Various development platforms and measurement systems are available at the IMS to implement the projects. The production and assembly of self-developed circuit boards are also possible. The completed work will be recorded in a written project report and presented in a final presentation.

There is the option of participation in (inter)national competitions, such as COSIMA'23. The accompanied scientific publication of relevant results is also possible.

Important notes on the registration

Please register via the central lab registration and in Stud.IP! The prerequisite for participation is submitting a project outline via the adjacent form by 10.04.2023 and its positive evaluation.

Participation requirements

Basic knowledge and skills in hardware-related programming and digital technology, especially microcontrollers or FPGAs, are helpful — also, basic knowledge and skills in system and circuit design.

Registration

Laboratory places are allocated via the central laboratory registration system of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Students of all faculties have to register for the lab via this system. Due to the limited number of participants, a positive evaluation of the submitted project outline is also required. Furthermore, you must register your participation in this event in StudIP.

Introductory event

The date of the introductory event will be announced. Participation in the introductory and final events is mandatory.
